Access to justice is a fundamental right that ensures fairness, equality, and opportunity
for all Albertans. The Alberta Law Foundation (the Foundation) is committed to protecting
and expanding access to justice through innovative programs and partnerships that serve
communities across the province.
But access to justice is under threat. Together, we can safeguard the resources and
services that Albertans rely on.
The Foundation exists to advance access and equity in systems of law and justice for all in Alberta. It is the primary funder of access to justice initiatives across the province, providing grants to over 65 community-based organizations that support everyday Albertans and vulnerable populations accessing, or involved with, the legal system.
Recent policy decisions and projected government shortfalls
risk undermining access to justice in Alberta, as the
government plans to cut its funding of Legal Aid Alberta by replacing it with funding from
the Foundation.
The government’s cuts to its funding of Legal Aid Alberta will ultimately
come at the expense of the many non-profits the Foundation
funds, and the vulnerable Albertans who rely on their programs and services
The Foundation's Defend Access to Justice campaign is a call to action for every Albertan who believes in fairness and equality. Through this campaign, we aim to:
Your voice can make a difference.
